A Lethal Combination:  Coercive Control, Men, and Guns

9:00 AM PDT/12:00 PM EDT/4:00 PM BST/5:00 PM CEST/3:00 AM AEDT (November 5, 2023)

In this critical talk, Ruhi Bengali and Doreen Dodgen-Magee will explore the complex and urgent intersectionality of gun violence and intimate partner violence. From her team’s research at Everytown for Gun Safety, Bengali will provide critical data and evidence of the role of guns in intimate partner violence, the effects it has on children, the communities most impacted by it, and the policies that can address this deadly crisis.

Magee will share her first-hand experience with domestic violence familicide, survivor trauma and community, and advocacy. She will also touch on the upcoming Supreme Court case U.S. v. Rahimi and the devastating impact this ruling would have on survivors of domestic violence in the United States.

“A Lethal Combination” promises to be an enlightening and impactful discussion, providing individuals and communities to connect the dots between gun access and rights with the violent and lethal consequences that begin at home and spill out into the communities.
