April 11, 2026 11:00 AM ET 12:00 PM ET John Jay College of Criminal Justice
This session focuses on therapeutic interventions and support programs that facilitate healing and recovery for survivors of coercive control. Saira Khan presents research and practice innovations in facilitating reintegration, growth, and recovery after coercive control, examining the specific challenges survivors face when rebuilding their lives after leaving controlling relationships and identifying evidence-based approaches that support successful reintegration into community, work, and healthy relationships. Cathy Press introduces the VOICE Programme, a comprehensive therapeutic intervention designed specifically to support victims healing from the unique trauma of coercive control. Her presentation details this innovative program’s grounding resources and therapeutically based exercises drawn from Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, demonstrating how the programme helps survivors recognize patterns of coercive behavior and understand the traumatic impact on their lives and wellbeing. Christine Cocchiola builds on these presentations with insights from her extensive clinical work with both adult and child survivors. Together, these presentations provide practitioners with concrete, evidence-informed approaches to supporting survivors’ healing journeys, acknowledging the complex trauma caused by coercive control while highlighting survivors’ resilience and capacity for growth.
