Dr. Heather Douglas AM

Law Professor and Domestic Violence Law Scholar

Dr. Heather Douglas AM is a Professor of Law at the Melbourne Law School, The University of Melbourne and the Deputy Director for the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (CEVAW). She researches legal responses to violence against women and more broadly, criminal law and procedure. She is the author of Women, Intimate Partner Violence and the Law (Oxford University Press) which tracked the legal journeys of 65 survivors of domestic abuse.

Previously a practicing lawyer, Heather developed Australia’s National Domestic and Family Violence Bench Book, a resource for judges dealing with domestic violence cases, and regularly trains Australian judges on recognising and responding to domestic abuse.
