Dr. José Fernandez Ruiz is a legal researcher in criminal law and violence, and is currently researching criminalization via philosophical, social, and legal literature, with a particular interest in psychological and intrafamilial violence and multiculturalism in mental disorders. José has a PhD from University of Glasgow Law School, in addition to law degrees from University of Toronto Law School and University of Chile. He currently teaches at Universidad Alberto Hurtado and The Millennium Institute for Violence and Democracy Research. He was coordinator of the UN-funded Indigenous Criminal Defenses Program, which provides specialized criminal defense to Chilean indigenous people. José has authored a number of academic articles on intrafamilial violence, the patriarchy, and the relationship between law and politics.
